Four Walls

Like the curtains on a window
I'm trying desperately to open
Our problems seem to billow
In the non-existent breeze
Shut up
Shut down
Shut in
Suffocating in my skin
So much to say, but do I dare
Vent thoughts into the stingy air?
Dry silence hardens hearts
Becoming walls and chains and bars
Hearts shatter
Pieces scatter
Hiding behind an "alright" smile
Behind the lies
We tell with eyes
And words
Curtains won't let them see
The darkened room
Attacked by gloom
Alone, instead of you and me
I hold on tight
This tiny light
Heavenly hope amidst the pain
That honest wind
And tear soaked rain
Can soften up these hearts again
Rebuild the bridges burning down
Beauty for ashes on the ground
So I'll wait through sorrowed nights
Wait for that early morning light
That means that joy is coming through
I hope it brings me back to you.
