Winter might be over
But rain still pours down
Might be soaked to the skin
But the chill's from within
Your smile in glass
Taunts me of a past
Where the flowers had bloomed
Far outside of this room
Blooms of friendship and love
A reflection of us
But the frost of today
Wants to steal them away
Can't
Stop
Petals
Falling
It seems fruitless to try.
Thought I'd tended them well,
But they just seem to die.
No more growth
Just the petals
That litter the ground.
What has changed?
Was it me?
I still feel the same.
Tried to shine with encouragement,
Water with honest love,
But it blinded and drowned
And washed away us.
I don't know what to do,
Who to be, I'll confess.
I wish I was someone
Who could clean up this mess.
But I can't. And I'm not.
It is fruitless to try.
Which might be the reason
I sit down to cry.
But then God scoops me up
Wipes my tears, tips my chin
And says, "Sweetheart,
Let me handle this mess you are in.
It might seem like these flowers
Are long dead and gone
A hopeless beginning
To a heartbreaking song
It might seem like their beauty
Has ended too soon
Petals wilting and drooping
And losing their bloom.
But take heart,
Oh my lovely and beautiful one
They'll be back after rains
And a kiss from the sun.
They'll grow back even fuller
More beauty to give
Just be patient,
Though it's hard,
They have life left to live.
For their growing must start
In the ground, in the dark.
Please just wait for your cue.
Let me do what I do.
Let me carry you through
To these promised days
Of singing and praise.
But first you must grow
It can hurt love, I know.
Just lean back into me,
I won't drop you, you'll see."
