That's what today seems to be all about. Once again, I underestimated the basement. It is a monstrously large project, with lots of creepy nooks and crannies. Today, I focused on the pantry. That sounds easy enough right? Just clean it out so that it can store the boxes that are taking over the one wall in the main room? Yeah, that's what I thought, and boy was I wrong!
I did learn some interesting things while cleaning it out though. (If you've just eaten, or plan on eating soon, maybe skip to the next paragraph...) Did you know that marshmallows don't mold? Not even after 6-12 years? And cornflakes turn red in about the same time period? And cans of green beans? Why they dehydrate and are light as air. Oh and the jars! That was almost my kryptonite today. Every single thing that Bonnie ever jarred while they lived at the apartment building was brought to this house when they moved... never again to see the light of day... until today that is. I was pulling out jars with labels saying anywhere from 1993 to 1998. Add the cobwebs, and the black syrup caked on to the shelves from the cans, and you've got my day pretty much.
I do take comfort in the fact that the most difficult part (and the most disgusting part) of cleaning and re-doing the basement is probably over. (Although, I might jinx it if I say that...) The most difficult part of the day though was going it alone, and then looking over at all the other parts of the basement that are in shambles still. This basement is my Everest!
That is why I am now going to revel in the small victories! That's how this war is going to be won. :P The pantry is done, so that's something off my checklist; I somehow managed to get my internet to work long enough to update you on my adventures for today; and the smell of my vanilla and mint chocolate candles in my room are wafting over to me like a balm to my tattered soul and senses. So please take my advice: Small Victories. That's where it's at. :)

P.S. For anyone who would like to help me in my next attack on the ridiculousness that is this basement project on Wednesday, please (please! please! please!) let me know! I'll spring for food, and maybe even drinks or dessert at the end of the week. Or you can always wait until we start dry walling and painting. :D

I'll help! I'm not sure how much time I can commit since Abigail's poor gums are still being cut up by those terrible teeth. Perhaps I can swing by for a bit after her afternoon nap. You can direct me to where ever you need the most help (no matter what colour the cornflakes may be).
PS
You make me want to blog. :)
